Sodium bicarbonate

Sodium bicarbonate

Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃), also known as baking soda, plays an important role in the textile industry, particularly in dyeing and finishing processes. It is commonly used to control pH levels during reactive dyeing of cotton and other cellulose fibers, ensuring proper fixation of dyes and vibrant, long-lasting colors.

In pre-treatment and washing stages, sodium bicarbonate helps to remove natural waxes, oils, and impurities from raw fabrics, improving absorbency and preparing the textile for further processing. It also assists in softening water and neutralizing acidic residues from other chemical treatments, helping to maintain fabric quality and reduce environmental impact.

Its mild alkalinity, non-toxicity, and environmental friendliness make sodium bicarbonate a preferred choice in sustainable textile manufacturing practices.
