Calcium formate is the calcium salt of formic acid, with the chemical formula Ca(HCOO)₂. It is also known as E238 when used as an animal feed preservative in the European Union. It appears as an odorless, white crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water. Calcium formate is used within EU as an animal feed preservative. It acidifies the feed thus preventing microbe growth and increasing shelf life.
- Approved in the EU as a preservative for animal feed, especially for pigs, poultry, fish, and ruminants.
- Acidifies feed, reducing pH and inhibiting microbial growth, which enhances shelf life and gut health in animals.
- Maximum recommended concentration: 15 g/kg feed.
Provides a supplemental source of calcium for livestock, supporting skeletal growth and muscle function.
