Ammonium nitrate (AN, NH4NO3) is a nitrogen-rich compound used across mining and quarrying, oil and gas, and agriculture. Siman LTD is an international supplier of industrial ammonium nitrate, offering both high-density (HDAN) and low-density (LDAN) grades to buyers in over 90 countries. Trading chemicals since 1994, we help mining contractors, blending plants and agricultural distributors source the right grade of ammonium nitrate, with export documentation and reliable delivery to their market.
Siman Ltd can offer the two types of the industrial ammonium nitrate- high density ammonium nitrate and low density ammonium nitrate.
Ammonium nitrate comes in two primary forms based on density: high-density (HDAN) and low-density (LDAN). The density of ammonium nitrate influences its applications, especially in the explosives and oil and gas (Fracking/Well Stimulation) industries.
What is ammonium nitrate?
Ammonium nitrate is a white to off-white crystalline or prilled solid that dissolves readily in water. It is valued for its high nitrogen content (typically around 34–35% N). The material is supplied in two main density grades, and the density determines the application: low-density (porous) ammonium nitrate is used chiefly in industrial blasting, while high-density ammonium nitrate is used mainly as a nitrogen fertilizer. Ammonium nitrate is also known simply as AN, and low- and high-density variants are abbreviated LDAN and HDAN.
1. Low-Density Ammonium Nitrate (LDAN):
- Description: Low-density ammonium nitrate is typically used for explosives, particularly in the production of ANFO (Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil), where its porous structure allows it to absorb fuel oil. LDAN is also referred to as porous prilled ammonium nitrate.
- Density: The bulk density of LDAN is typically between 0.6 to 0.9 g/cm³.
2. High-Density Ammonium Nitrate (HDAN):
- Description: High-density ammonium nitrate is primarily used as a fertilizer. Its non-porous nature makes it less suited for explosive applications but ideal for agricultural uses where it acts as a nitrogen-rich fertilizer for crops.
- Density: The bulk density of HDAN is typically between 0.9 to 1.1 g/cm³.
Applications and uses
Mining, quarrying and civil works (via licensed users)
Low-density ammonium nitrate (LDAN), also called porous prilled ammonium nitrate, is a core raw material for industrial blasting agents used in surface and underground mining, quarrying, and infrastructure projects such as tunnelling. Its porous structure gives it the properties required for these applications. Supply of ammonium nitrate for these uses is made only to appropriately licensed and authorised industrial buyers, in line with local regulations.
Oil and gas
Ammonium nitrate is used in the oil and gas industry in operations connected with well stimulation, where a controlled, licensed nitrogen-based material is required.
Agriculture
High-density ammonium nitrate (HDAN) is used as a straight nitrogen fertilizer, supplying nitrogen in both nitrate and ammonium forms for a wide range of crops. It is a common choice for arable farming and grassland where a fast-acting nitrogen source is needed.

Grades, packaging and storage
Siman supplies ammonium nitrate in two density grades: low-density (LDAN / porous prilled) for industrial blasting applications, and high-density (HDAN) for fertilizer use. Standard packaging is 25 kg bags and big bags (bulk bags); confirm the exact packaging and grade specification for your order with our team. Ammonium nitrate is a strong oxidizer: it should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from heat, ignition sources, fuels, oils and other combustible or incompatible materials, and handled and transported in accordance with the applicable safety data sheet (SDS) and local regulations. Because ammonium nitrate is a regulated material in many countries, supply may require licensing, permits or end-use documentation – our team can advise on requirements for your market.
Ammonium nitrate supplier and export
Siman LTD has traded chemicals since 1994 and ships to over 90 countries across six continents — from Bulgaria to Australia, and through Europe, Africa and the Americas. We source from well-checked suppliers, guarantee the timing of delivery, quality and packing, and can arrange third-party quality and quantity inspection on request. We work on CFR, CIF, CIP, DDU and DDP terms. For a regulated product like ammonium nitrate, we work only with appropriately licensed and authorised buyers and support the export documentation your market requires. Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between HDAN and LDAN?
High-density ammonium nitrate (HDAN) is a non-porous grade used mainly as a nitrogen fertilizer, with a bulk density typically of 0.9–1.1 g/cm³. Low-density ammonium nitrate (LDAN), also called porous prilled ammonium nitrate, has a bulk density typically of 0.6–0.9 g/cm³ and is used mainly in industrial blasting applications.
What is ammonium nitrate used for?
High-density ammonium nitrate is used as a nitrogen fertilizer in agriculture, low-density (porous) ammonium nitrate is a raw material for industrial blasting agents used in mining, quarrying and civil works, supplied only to licensed users. It is also used in certain oil and gas well-stimulation operations.
Is a licence required to buy ammonium nitrate?
In many countries ammonium nitrate is a regulated material and its purchase, storage and transport may require licences, permits or end-use documentation. We supply only to appropriately licensed and authorised buyers and can advise on the documentation needed for your market.
Which markets do you export ammonium nitrate to?
Siman ships to over 90 countries across six continents and works on CFR, CIF, CIP, DDU and DDP terms, subject to the regulatory and licensing requirements of the destination country.
