Nitrogen fertilizers, as their name implies, refer to fertilizers that contain nitrogen and come in a liquid or salt form which can be absorbed by plants and trees as a nutrition element.
Nitrogen fertilizers are found in the nature but for the most part they are produced by extracting nitrogen from the atmosphere and converting it into a liquid or salt that makes it applicable to the soil.
This is done by various chemical processes such as: ammonia synthesis (Haber- Bosh process); oxidation and nutrification; UREA process and few others.
Nitrogen fertilizers are very important for the agriculture for various reasons:
- stimulate the growth and the development of plants;
- improve the quality of the harvest;
- help the process of the photosynthesis;
- nitrogen supports the health and the sustainability of plants;
- balance soil fertility.
