Aluminium sulfate

Aluminium sulfate

Aluminium sulphate, commonly known as alum, is widely used in water treatment as a coagulant. It plays a crucial role in removing suspended solids, organic matter, and microorganisms from drinking water and wastewater. When added to water, aluminium sulphate reacts with natural alkalinity to form aluminium hydroxide flocs, which trap impurities and settle them out of the water. This process significantly improves clarity and reduces turbidity. It is especially effective in removing phosphorus and controlling algae growth in water bodies. Aluminium sulphate is also used in industrial wastewater treatment to reduce chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD). Its reliability, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency make it one of the most commonly used coagulants worldwide.
